The Giants have an abundance of starting pitchers, with arguably seven-eight pitchers capable of being in a starting rotation (not counting Kyle Harrison, and depending on how they view Sam Long). As of now, of the following eight, it's probably the first 5 that would be in the rotation in a traditional sense - delegating DeSclafani, Junis and Long to the bullpen (the latter two would probably be in the bullpen anyways in an ideal world).
Logan Webb
Alex Cobb
Alex Wood
Ross Stripling
Sean Manaea
Anthony DeSclafani
Jacob Junis
Sam Long
But we know the Giants aren't very traditional anymore. And we also know that they like to be protective of their pitchers workload - especially early in the season. So what if instead they went something like this:
Logan Webb
Sean Manaea / Ross Stripling
Alex Cobb
Anthony DeSclafani / Sam Long
Alex Wood / Jacob Junis
This would allow them to limit each pitcher to about 80 pitches while they continue to stretch out while not overtaxing the bullpen (at least the 1 inning reliever types). Then if (unfortunately probably more of "when") someone gets hurt, they have someone already built up for a starter's workload. This obviously wouldn't last very long, so if everyone remains healthy it would probably mean the strategy would change. But this can allow them to let things play out and see what happens, while also ensuring their depth is bolstered.
